Botox is a peripherally acting muscle relaxant. Botox is administered to adults aged under 65, to improve vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows temporarily observed when frown, when the severity of these lines has an important psychological impact for the patient.

Botox works by blocking nerve impulses directed to all the muscles in which it was injected. This prevents muscle contraction, leading to a temporary and reversible paralysis.

If you have difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing, after treatment. VISTABEL is not recommended in patients with a history of dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and swallowing disorders. VISTABEL is not recommended to people aged fewer than 18 and in patients over 65 years. A dose too high or too frequent administration may increase the risk of antibody formation. The antibody may lead to failure of treatment with botulinum toxin type A even for other uses. To limit this risk, the interval between two treatments should not be less than three months.

Patients treated with recommended doses may experience exaggerated muscle weakness.
