1 1

Generic Azulfidine is prescribed for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. Inactive in its ingested form, it is crashed by bacteria (present in the colon) into 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA), and sulfapyridine. The former then offers therapeutic benefit. It helps in reducing the irritation and swelling in the large intestines.

Generic Azulfidine is prescribed to treat mild to severe ulcerative colitis. It does not treat the problem but help reducing the symptoms like diarrhea, stomach ache, fever and rectal bleeding. It is also recommended during the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. In some cases, doctor may advise it to treat Crohn's disease and ankylosing spondylitis.
