Benzoyl peroxide is known to create an antibacterial effect. It is also a keratolytic agent. It has a very mild drying effect that enables easy washing away of excessive oil and dirt from the skin.


Use

Generic Benzagel is prescribed for the treatment of acne. It is only meant for external. Any contact with eye, mouth and open cuts on the skin, can cause severe burning sensation. It may take several weeks for the medication to show any improvement on the skin, hence, one should keep using it as long as the doctor suggests.


Side effects

Some of the common side effects are redness, drying and peeling of skin, mild burning, tingly feeling, itching. Some serious side effects that may require immediate attention of your doctor are allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. However, these adverse effects are very rare.
