Generic Keflex is a 1st generation semi-synthetic antibiotic that comes from the family of antibiotics called cephalosporins. The mediation helps in preventing the development of bacterial cells by obstructing bacteria from creating the cell wall that covers each cell. This discloses the bacteria to the external environment and enables the relapse of the contents of the cell. Finally, the bacteria fail to stay alive.

Generic Keflex is prescribed for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria that are vulnerable to the effects of this medication. Some of the infections for which generic Keflex is highly prescribed are infections of the middle ear, tonsils, throat, larynx (laryngitis), bronchi (bronchitis) and pneumonia. In addition, it may also be prescribed for the treatment of infections in urinary tract, skin, and bone.
