Generic Nexavar is prescribed to the patients going through the chemotherapy session in order to fight against cancer. The medication acts by interfering with the growth of cancer cells and decreases the rate of their development and multiplication in the body.


Generic Nexavar is prescribed for the treatment of a certain kind of kidney cancer called advanced renal cell carcinoma. The medication is also prescribed in some cases of liver cancer.

Side effects

Some common and manageable side effects caused by generic Nexavar are numbness, tingling, or swelling of your hands or feet, hair loss, tumor pain, coughing, breathing problems, dry and itchy skin, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach ache, constipation, loss of appetite, headache and pain in your joints, bones, or mouth. However, if any of these side effects persist, you should consult your doctor immediately. On the other hand, serious side effects caused by this medication are breathlessness, rash, oozing, or severe pain in the palms of your hands or the soles of your feet, blisters, severe headache, high blood pressure, chest pain, seizure, bruising, unusual bleeding, bloody or tarry stools, weakness, swelling, quick weight gain, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, perspiration, breathing problems, confusion and convulsion.

Important Precautions

Before taking this medication, it is advised to have a long detailed discussion with your doctor about your allergies and allergic reactions. Also discuss, if you are suffering from or have had any problems related to • Kidney or liver disease • High blood pressure (hypertension) • Heart disease • A bleeding or blood clotting disorder such as hemophilia • History of stroke or heart attack Also, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or are already breastfeeding an infant. Dosage and administration

The medication is supposed to be swallowed orally on an empty stomach. Take it with a full glass of water. Take the medicine at least one or two hours after your meals. The dosage should exactly be as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take the medicine in large amount or for longer duration without consulting your doctor.


Call your doctor or the nearest medical emergency room in case of overdose suspicion. Known symptoms of overdose of this medication are severe diarrhea, redness, swelling, or blistering, and skin rash.
