Introduction

Synthroid is a synthetic (man-made) substitution of the main thyroid hormone, thyroxine (T4). Naturally thyroxin is produced and secreted by the thyroid gland. Thyroid hormone facilitates metabolic rate increment of cells of all tissues in the body. The fetus as well as the new born depends largely on the thyroid hormone as it is vital for the growth and development of all tissues along with that of bones and the brain. For adults, thyroid hormone is vital to maintain brain function, body temperature and food metabolism.
