Introduction

The drug Heptral belongs to a group of hepatoprotectors with an antidepressive activity. The drug acts in bile-expelling action, possesses an anti oxidative, detoxification, regeneration, anti fibrosis and neuroprotective properties. It also fills the deficiency of ademetionine and stimulates its production in the organism as well. Ademetionine takes part in the transmethylation reactions therefore it increases the amount of glutamine in the liver, cysteine and turin in the plasma. It also normalizes the metabolic processes in the liver.


Use

The drug is used in patients with Non-calculous chronic cholecystitis, Intrahepatic cholestasis, Cholangitis, Hepatic steatosis, Chronic hepatitis, Liver cirrhosis, encephalopathy associated with liver failure, Depression, Abstinent syndrome(including alcoholic) and those with Liver damage caused by toxic substances, alcohol, viruses, drugs such as antibiotics, antiviral preparation, tricyclic Antidepressant and others.


Composition

The drug is available in the tablet form and with the strength og 400 mg. Each tablet also contains the following excipients such as Microcrystalline cellulose, carboxymethyl starch sodium salt, glycerol behenate, mannitol, magnesium stearate, anhydrous colloidal silica, methacrylic acid copolymer, titanium dioxide, glycerol palmitostearate, medium chain triglycerides, talc, triethyl citrate and FD&C yellow No 5.


Dosage and administration

The recommended dosage of the drug in Adults is 1 to 2 tablets per day which can be taken on an empty stomach. Heptral tablets should also be swallowed whole and not chewed. It should not be taken with meals for better absorption of S-adenosyl-L-methionine and in order to achieve the drug
