In the deficiency of the insulin in the body the blood glucose level is increased due to the less glucose uptake by the liver, muscle and fat tissues. When the insulin is administered subcutaneously it acts rapidly after 20 to 30 minutes and increases the glucose uptake by the muscles, liver and fat tissues from the blood stream. It also decreases the production of the glucose in the liver and skeletal muscles. By this way it controls the blood sugar level in the human body.

It is indicated in the patients with diabetes mellitus where insulin is required for the treatment. It is also suitable for the treatment of hyperglycaemic coma and diabetic ketoacidosis as well as to stabilise the blood sugar level in the patient with diabetes facing the operation.

Side effects

Unlike other drugs it also has its own side effects on the human body. Side effects or the adverse effects are the extensions of the pharmacological actions of the drug administered. Therefore, the chief side effect found after the administration is hypoglycemia. The severe hypoglycemia may cause the lethal effects. The frequent hypoglycemia may cause severe neurological damage. Immediate allergic reactions are liable to occur, which might be the severe one. But the anaphylactic shock is very uncommon after the use of this insulin. It may cause sodium retention in the body and as a result of which the peripheral oedema is commonly noticed in the patients. It may result in the lipodystrophy in the region of injection. Skin irritations may be found in the site of injection.

If the patient has the allergic tendency towards the insulin or to any of the ingredients of this pharmacological preparation should not use it. It should not be used in the implanted or the external insulin pumps or in the peristaltic pumps with the silicone tubing.

Insuman Rapid vial is stored under refrigeration in the temperature below 15 degree Celsius. Keep away from the reach of the children and pets. It should not be exposed to the direct sun light.

Each ml of the insulin rapid contains 100 IU of human insulin. Each vial contains 3 ml of solution for injection, equivalent to 300 IU insulin.

Important Precautions

Before using this insulin the blood glucose level should be tested. In the case of hypoglycemia it should not be administered as it decreases the blood sugar level. Change in the strength, brand type, the root of administration and/or method of manufacture require change in the dosage of this insulin administration. Dose should be changed according to the acquired infections, adrenal problems, pituitary problems, thyroid problems, mental stress, physical exercise, injury, surgery, and change in diet, hepatic and renal problems, pregnancy and lactation.

Dosage and administration

It is injected subcutaneously under the skin 15 to 20 minutes before the meal. It can be injected in the region like buttocks, thighs. With each injection the puncture site should be changed with in the particular skin area. It also can be administered intravenously in the conditions like hyperglycemia and diabetes keto acidosis by the experienced clinicians in the clinical set ups.
