Introduction

Medroxyprogesterone is an acylated derivative, medroxyprogesterone-17-acetate and acts as a progestin. Compared to the medroxyprogesterone-17-acetate, medroxy acetate is 100 times more potent as a progestin. Medroxyprogesterone is also a derivative of medroxyprogesterone-17-acetate. Medroxyprogesterone is commonly used to regularise the irregular periods in the menstrual cycles of the women or abnormal vaginal bleeding. It also can be used in the women going through the menopause. This drug can be prescribed to the women to avoid the chances of getting uterine carcinoma who are taking estrogen.


Use

Modus tablet is composed of progestin hormone and generally used in the conditions like menstrual problems, breast cancer and prevention of unwanted pregnancy.


Side effects

Administration of the Modus tablet may cause some adverse effects. These side effects include tenderness of the breast with liquid production, changes in the menstrual cycle, irregular vaginal bleeding, acne vulgaris, hirustism, alopecia, difficulty in sleeping, drowsiness, weight gain or loss. There are some of the adverse effects which are rare but become serious and needs the medical attentions. These are inflammation in one leg, slow or difficult speech, dizziness and faintness, weakness or numbness of arm and leg, shortness of breathing, hemoptosis, sudden chest pain, change in vision, diplopia, blurred vision, bulging of eyes, missed menstruation, mental depression, pale colouration of skin and sclera, hyperthermia, hives, skin rashes, itching, dysphagia, swelling in the hands and legs.


Contraindication

Modus tablet is contraindicated in the patients having conditions like suspected pregnancy, breast cancer, hepatic problem, and the hypersensitiveness towards this drug.


storage

This drug is kept in an air tight container and kept in the normal room temperature varying in between the temperature 15 degree Celsius to 30 degree temperature. Moisture, direct radiation and the reach of the children should be avoided.


Composition

Modus tablet of 10 mg is composed of the chief active pharmacological agent like Medroxyprogesterone and the inactive ingredients like Amen, Curretab, Cycrin and Ptrovera.


Important Precautions

The chief condition in which the major precaution should be taken is the allergic reaction associated with the administration of Medroxyprogesterone. While consulting the physician the use of the other drugs should be informed to the physician. The history of breast cancer, or the cancer of other female organs should be assessed by the physician before prescribing the drug. Unexplained vaginal bleeding, a missed abortion, blood clots in the legs, lungs, brain or eyes or stroke or transient ischemic attacks (TIA), headache, diabetes or cardiac, renal, hepatic problems should be assessed properly. Pregnancy, lactation and recent dental surgery need important precautions during administration of this drug.


Dosage and administration

Dosage of the Modus tablet varies from individual to individual as per the need and the severity of the condition. It can be taken with or without food in oral administration. It can be taken in the dose of 10 mg per day according to the need.
