Introduction

Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic drug. This drug belongs to the chemical class of benzisoxazole derivatives. It works by changing the effects of chemicals in the brain. Risperidone is unique among most other atypicals in that it has high affinity for the D2 receptor. It is believed that risperidone affects the way the brain works by interfering with communication among the brain's nerves. Nerves communicate with each other by making and releasing chemicals called neurotransmitters.


Use

This medicine is used for treating schizophrenia, bipolar mania. It is also use in autistic children to treat symptoms of irritability.


Side effects

Side effect is commonly found in all type of medicine. Some of it is serious but most of them are common side effect. This medicine have this side effect such as: dizziness, hyperactivity, tiredness, abdominal pain, fatigue, fever, nausea, acne, dry mouth, indigestion, constipation, runny nose, pain at the injected area, dry skin, weight gain, loss, light headache, rash, redness, sore throat, fainting, breast lumps, chest pain, sweating, frequent falls, drooling and muscle stiffness.
